Autism Initiatives publishes an annual report which shows how pay rates for women and men compare. Here are the highlights from the current report.
Difference in hourly rate
- Men’s mean hourly rate is 2.87% lower than women’s
- Men’s median hourly rate is 0% lower than women’s
Proportion of women in each pay quartile
- Top quartile (highest paid) – 66.6% of the top quartile are women
- Upper middle quartile – 57.2% of the upper middle quartile are women
- Lower middle quartile – 55.1% of the lower middle quartile are women
- Lower quartile (lowest paid) – 55.9% of the lower quartile are women
Who received bonus pay
- 0% of women

Difference in hourly rate
- Men’s mean hourly rate is 3% higher than women’s. In other words when comparing mean hourly rates, men earn £1.03 for every £1 that women earn.
- Men’s median hourly rate is 4% higher than women’s. In other words when comparing median hourly rates, men earn £1.04 for every £1 that women earn.
Proportion of women in each pay quartile
- Top quartile (highest paid) – 74% of the top quartile are women
- Upper middle quartile – 65% of the upper middle quartile are women
- Lower middle quartile – 69% of the lower middle quartile are women
- Lower quartile (lowest paid) – 87% of the lower quartile are women
