Can I send you my CV?
Autism Initiatives is an equal opportunities employer, as such you will need to complete the Autism Initiatives Application Form, however please do attach a CV if you wish to add supporting information.
You can also send us a quick ‘expression of interest’ and this includes your name and contact number, where you live, what hours you can do and what roles you are interested in.
Our friendly HR team will then get in touch with you about our current career opportunities and can even support you with completing an application form.
Do I need to complete all sections of the application form?
Yes. Please also provide a full employment history and note any gaps in employment. Use this application form as your opportunity to explain why you want the role and how your skills, knowledge and experience match the job description and person specification.
If you have any queries in regards to completing your application, please get in touch.
How many hours do I need to work?
For our Support Worker roles, full time permanent positions are 39 hours per week, however part time permanent hours are variable and you can chat about this at your interview. Flexibility may be required in regards to working hours, according to the needs of the service. We also welcome applicants who are looking for additional hours (as and when required).
For our Head Office based roles, full time permanent positions are 35 hours per week; part time permanent hours will be detailed on the advert in which you are applying to.
What shift patterns will I work?
Meeting the needs of the people we support is our priority and you may have to work a variety of shifts patterns including days, nights, weekends and public/bank holidays. You will be issued with a rota where your allocated shifts will be detailed. Your days/shift patterns may change from one rota to the next, so it is important to be flexible. The rota is usually prepared in advance to try to allow time to plan.
What qualifications and experience do I need to have to be a Support Worker?
Experience is not essential: what is most important is a commitment to supporting people with autism to live life to the full.
We invest in our training and foster a culture of lifelong learning. We have a comprehensive induction programme which includes mandatory and service specific training. Further development opportunities will be available, working alongside a wide range of multi-disciplinary staff which will include our autism practitioners.
We are ambassadors for vocational training and support all staff to gain a nationally recognised qualification appropriate to their role. Upon successful completion of your probation period, Autism Initiatives will support you to achieve qualifications appropriate for your role.
How do you select people for interview?
After the closing date, we read all of the application forms to see how each person’s skills and experience relate to the post we are trying to fill. We then invite the applicants for an interview who meet our requirements most closely.
Autism Initiatives is accredited as a Disability Confident employer. All applicants who have a disability who meet the criteria, will be invited to interview. Please contact our HR team further information.
What are your interviews like?
You will usually be interviewed by a panel, which will be a minimum of two people. They will ask each candidate the same questions, along with questions based on your application form and on other answers you give at interview. This is to give you the opportunity to expand on the information you have given us in your form and show the panel how well you meet the requirements of the job. People who use our services can also take part in the interview process or they may contribute in other ways, e.g. supplying interview questions to be asked, meet and greet. For some roles, you may be asked to complete a task in addition to the interview. If this applies to you, we will tell you when we invite you for interview. At the interview, you will be able to ask any questions that you have about the role and anything else you need to know about Autism Initiatives.
I have a criminal conviction, am I still eligible to work for you?
We actively promote the right mix of talent, skills and potential and welcome applications from a wide range of candidates, including those with criminal records. Having a criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from working with us, this will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of the offences. We encourage all applicants to provide details of their criminal record at an early stage in the recruitment and selection process (we guarantee that this information will only be seen by those who need to see it as part of the recruitment process). Please note, failure to reveal information that is directly relevant to the position sought could lead to withdrawal of an offer of employment. As part of our application pack, we issue a ‘Policy for Ex-Offenders’ that provides further detailed information. If you would like to chat to us, please get in touch
Are there any checks I need to go through before being employed?
If you are successful at interview, our HR Team will be in touch to welcome you and begin your pre-employment checks. These checks include: a minimum of 2 references (one of which should be from your most recent employer), Criminal Records Check, Certificate of Good Conduct (if required) and Proof of Eligibility. As soon as all satisfactory checks have been received, we will get in touch with you to get you started!
