Peterhouse School Achieves Gold Standard in Arts

Posted on 20th September 2018

We are delighted to announce that Peterhouse School has been reawarded an Artsmark Gold Award by Arts Council England recognising the high standard of arts and cultural education.

Peterhouse School has held an Artsmark award since 2008 and this is the third time they have been awarded a Gold standard showing their commitment to a creative curriculum that is personalised to suit the needs of our learners and uses the arts to increase their skills with positive outcomes.

Artsmark is a scheme run by The Arts Council England which requires that applicants demonstrate a forward thinking and ongoing journey to develop arts and culture over time.

In order to achieve the Artsmark highest standard, the Gold Award, Peterhouse School proved that:

  • They celebrate their ongoing commitment to arts and cultural education at a leadership level, and the opportunities established across their whole setting.
  • Children and young people are offered equal opportunity to plan, experience, participate in, and evaluate a broad range of high-quality arts and cultural activities.
  • The school recognises the importance of development opportunities delivered by specialists for staff that have measurable effects in these areas.
  • Peterhouse engages with a range of arts and cultural organisations and other settings, and can evidence the positive impact of these partnerships.
  • Students have an opportunity to further develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of arts and culture, and Peterhouse School is working to share the good practice they have established.

The Artsmark panel made the following comment about Peterhouse School’s award submission:

"It is interesting to hear, not only about the learning benefits of the arts, but of their therapeutic value too. At Peterhouse School, Artsmark has afforded opportunities to extend and advance the range of arts offers, to further strengthen partnerships and share learning locally and nationally through conferences and events. The richness of the curriculum offer is impressive and the impacts on learners extends beyond school and into spheres of social and work related behaviours and skills. Peterhouse has used the arts in all their forms to link to Adult Work Related learning, for example. This has allowed Peterhouse to generate additional cross curricular links."

Headteacher of Peterhouse School, Janet Allan was delighted to share news of the award she said:

"We are delighted to have been awarded the Artsmark Gold Award!  The arts play an important part at Peterhouse School, contributing to our curriculum, therapies and enrichment activities.  This award reflects the hard work, commitment and creativity  of our students and staff!"
