4 year old Chris takes on 5K sand dunes challenge

Posted on 9th June 2020

Lock down has been especially difficult for Chris, who is on the autism spectrum, so now he's able to get out and about again he's taking on an amazing challenge to raise funds

Chris's dad, Garrath told us more about Chris's challenge...

"Chris is 4 years old and loves the outdoors and running around. Chris has Autism Spectrum Condition and over lock down it has been difficult for Chris being inside most of the day."

Now we are getting an opportunity to venture out a little more we are taking advantage and setting a target of running further. Chris is currently doing 3k and we have set a target to reach 5k together. I will be running with him and recording our run data on Strava.

Chris loves his time outdoors and is a very active child. He's always been keen on running around whether it is in a field or over the sand dunes, but due to his autism he has little sense of danger so cannot go running on paths near roads.

Chris's fundraising challenge will have no set route, we will just be running the maze that is Hightown sand dunes. We have not set a specific date as we will keep working on getting further until we reach our goal and the efforts can be dependant on weather.

"We have chosen Autism Initiatives as they support many other children like Chris and do great work in the area."

Everyone at Autism Initiatives would like to wish Chris and Garrath every success with their 5K sand dunes challenge. If you've been inspired by Chris's story please show your support by donating to his fundraising page where you will also be able to find out more about his progress.
