I am walking for Ralph

Posted on 24th February 2021

Lauren has stepped up to Walk for Autism to show how much she cares about autism.

Lauren recently stepped up to the Walk for Autism challenge to walk 10,000 steps every day for 8 days while raising much needed funds to support autistic people in the UK and Ireland. Like many of our amazing walkers Lauren has a very personal reason to take positive steps in 2021 and we asked her to share her story ...

"I am walking for my son, Ralph. Ralph was diagnosed on 4th December 2020 after what felt like a lifetime of waiting, but this doesn't change what an amazing little boy he truly is!

We faced tough challenges to get him diagnosed to start with not many people didn't believed me, I even questioned myself but I knew deep down I was right. We couldn't have many face to face appointments as lockdown hit and we was pretty much on our own although we did have lots of support from each professional that was already involved with Ralph, many video calls, phone calls and texts to check how we was coping.

"Throughout all of this my mental health took a toll but I had to keep fighting for Ralph I had to be heard I knew deep down that Ralph has Autism I took all the correct steps to get him referred, it was pretty much 1 step forward and 2 steps back in the process but when diagnoses day came every emotion hit at once, I was pleased to be taken seriously, I was upset that he wasn't seen beforehand, it didn't sink in until a few days later even though I had known for long. Ralph is an incredible little boy who is learning at his own pace and teaches us new things each day 💙 "

Lauren wants a more friendly, welcoming and understanding world for her son to grow up in, will you join her and let every step you take move us closer to that goal?
