We love sharing inspiring staff stories. Recently, we have been proud to celebrate one team member in particular, as they received a prestigious award for outstanding practice.
Tiah Houghton was awarded “Runner Up Instructor of the Year” at the Loddon Training’s Autumn Conference 2022. The award recognises Tiah’s leadership and training skills, which have helped to inspire and motivate staff across our organisation.
The Loddon’s approach to training is PROACT-SCIPr-UK, which implements person-centred and proactive support strategies. At Autism Initiatives, we combine this approach with The 5 Point Star model, our framework for working alongside autistic people.
When Tiah attended the conference, she had no idea that her Manager, Nickie Manners, had nominated her for an award. When the winners were announced, Tiah was surprised to hear her name called out to the room.
Tiah shared: “It was so nice to be highlighted and recognised for my work. I was surprised and really happy. For me, the vision of Autism Initiatives has always been my favourite thing about working here. The work we do significantly changes people’s quality of life and I enjoy working alongside people in a positive way.”
Tiah’s Manager, Nickie, is an Autism Practice Team Manager. Nickie was enthusiastic to share why she nominated Tiah: “Tiah’s confidence and knowledge has really grown – she’s very reliable. I’ve worked with her closely the last 12 months and seen how much she’s progressed. Tiah’s key skills are that she is clear, concise and very knowledgeable.”
