We are thrilled to announce that Number 3 One Stop Shop, part of Autism initiatives Scotland, recently expanded to include a new service in the Angus area.
Our One Stop Shops in Scotland support more than 5,000 people each year. They are places where autistic people can access support and advice for everyday life.
Number 3 One Stop Shop originally covered the Perth and Kinross areas, but it soon became clear that there was a need for accessible autism services further afield.
Like the service in Perth, the One Stop Shop in Angus can be used as a drop-in during set hours. It is a safe place, where people can relax and take a break from the stresses of everyday life.
The team offer a wide range of services to autistic adults, including 1:1s with experienced, knowledgeable, approachable and non-judgemental staff.
A number of issues can be discussed at appointments, which typically include:
- Employment
- Housing
- Benefits
- Education
- Relationships
- Mental wellbeing
- Criminal justice
- Pre and post diagnostic information
There are also many interest and activity groups each month where people can learn, have fun and have opportunities to connect with other autistic people.
There are a number of Groups and Activities that are run on a regular basis, including arts and crafts, board games, discussion groups, bingo, pool competitions, baking and cooking, and photography.
People who access the service can make the most of a comfortable couch area with music equipment and games, a pool table, computers, and a small library.
In order to make services accessible to those people who can’t access our bases, there are a number of virtual sessions too.
The One Stop Shop facilitate activities in the community on a regular basis. These include Visits to local pubs, restaurants and cafes, as well as sports activities and tips to the cinema.
Our One Stop Shops have been an innovative way to provide support, advice and social opportunities to autistic people since 2005. The first of Autism Initiatives’ One Stop Shop was launched in Edinburgh and Lothians, and soon expanded to cover Scottish Borders, Highland and Perth & Kinross.
Anyone interested in using the services at Number 3 should book an appointment to meet with a member of staff, who will give you a brief induction to the resources available.
In Angus, there are appointments available in Forfar and Arbroath, with community-based appointments available on request.
