Established in 2010, A Great Little Place was set up by Autism Initiatives to host supported work placements for autistic people to improve their employability whilst serving up delicious homemade food, freshly bakes cakes and barista coffee.

In 2018 we relocated this very popular small café to a much larger site within The Atkinson on Lord Street in Southport, a beautiful and creative arts venue in the heart of the town and have seen the business grow from strength to strength.

Part of the community

In 2023 we were judged to be the best café in Southport as voted by Southport BID which all the team are very proud of.  This excellent café is always busy and customers return over and over again enjoying quality food and cakes that are lovingly made in-house and are displayed for all to see! We are lucky to have extensive kitchen facilities allowing our dedicated and creative team to create delicious daily specials.

A Great Little Place also offers a range of bespoke buffets for events and celebration cakes. Please feel free to drop us a line to see how we could help.

Please follow us on Facebook for more details of events and beautiful cakes and homemade food.

Enterprise

We work alongside Peterhouse School and OSSME within Autism Initiatives and many local schools to create a selection of meaningful supported work placements that can be delivered outside the traditional classroom.

Young people will learn valuable work and social skills, increase their confidence and self-esteem, improve their health and wellbeing and can receive support into employment. This placement can be supported by accredited E-learning.

Flexible education & learning

Funding is required to access social enterprise, this can come from Local Authorities, education establishments and can be self-funded. Occasionally scholarships can be awarded.

If you are interested in finding out more about flexible education placements, please do get in touch.

I am really impressed with the service that Autism Initiatives provide for young people like my son. To be able to access a placement that is safe, welcoming and above all totally inclusive is just fantastic. Of course every environment is only as good as its staff and (they) are simply amazing.
