It’s been an exciting few months for A Great Little Place, as the Southport café received a nomination for ‘Café of the Year’ in the Your Southport Stars awards. Organised by Southport BID, the annual awards include a range of voting categories to recognise the achievements of local businesses in the area.
The team at A Great Little Place were excited to share news of the nomination with customers, spreading the word with leaflets and across social media. Throughout the voting period, Southport Stars received thousands of votes from members of the public, who wanted to see their favourite spots in Southport rewarded for their efforts.
The results were revealed on 18th April at The Vincent Hotel in Southport town centre. Southport BID kindly invited nominees to attend the awards, giving local businesses the chance to connect with each other throughout the evening.
On the night, the team from A Great Little Place were delighted to be presented with the award for ‘Café of the Year 2023’.
A Great Little Place is a social enterprise café, established by Autism Initiatives in 2010. The popular café has become a hub of the community, welcoming customers to enjoy homemade food and locally-roasted barista coffee. Set in the historic surroundings of the Atkinson, the café looks out onto bustling Lord Street.
The café proudly works alongside schools and other education services, providing young autistic people with hospitality based supported work placements and employment skills that have been described as “life-changing”.
Young people are able to develop self-confidence and communication skills, and are supported with work opportunities for the future. A Great Little Place plans to continue working with young people to offer a café experience with social purpose.
Jon Gordon, Head of Enterprise at Autism Initiatives shared:
“We’re so proud to have been a part of the Southport community since 2010. Winning an award that is voted for by the public is especially appreciated by the team. Thank you to our fantastic staff and the people we support, who work so hard to make the café a success. And most of all, thank you to our brilliant customers for voting for us.”
