Autism Initiatives Scotland Celebrates 20 Years of Service
Autism Initiatives Scotland is proud to be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Over the past two decades, the organisation has made a significant impact on the lives of countless autistic individuals and their families.
Since its inception in 2004, Autism Initiatives Scotland has been committed to providing high-quality, person-centred support services.
The charity offers a range of services, including Housing Support and Care-at-Home services, Day Opportunities, University Support and Outreach support. Our One Stop Shops provide free access to the widest range of post diagnostic services across the country – serving over 8,000 autistic people across Scotland.
All of the neuro-affirming services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual, and the team work alongside each person to help them to achieve their goals.
The amazing work of the autism diagnostic assessment team in Scotland has resulted in over 2,000 people receiving a positive diagnosis of autism and then, seamlessly being offered a programme of post diagnostic support with a real focus on peer support.
Catherine Steedman, National Director of Autism Initiatives Scotland, said of the organisation’s mission and achievements over the past 20 years:
“It’s been an honour to be part of the incredible growth and impact of Autism Initiatives Scotland over the past two decades. We continue to offer valuable and relevant services to thousands of autistic people each year. None of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of our team – and the autistic people we work alongside. Thank you to everyone who has contributed towards making a difference in the lives of autistic people.”
The team at Autism initiatives Scotland plan to commemorate this milestone during their annual staff awards celebration, in which colleagues are specifically recognised for the impact that they have made in people’s lives, through their work as part of the team that year.
Whilst discussing the impact of the charity’s services, one individual said:
“I felt I was receiving the gold standard of empathetic inclusion at Number 6 one Stop Shop’s Post Diagnostic Support Group.”
Another individual said of Autism Initiatives Scotland’s services:
“I probably wouldn’t be here without the staff. I felt very alone at the beginning and now I know that I can always rely on someone to support me”
As Autism Initiatives Scotland looks to the future, the organisation remains committed to its mission of providing exceptional support to autistic individuals and their families.
By continuing to innovate and adapt to the evolving needs of the community, Autism Initiatives Scotland aims to make a lasting difference for generations to come.
