Nayeem, who uses our services in Southport, represented Team GB in The Special Olympics North West Region Springtime Equestrian Event.
The event was held at Wirral Riding Centre in Neston on 13-14 April.
Nayeem’s family spent two wonderful days in Wirral, supporting him as he took part in the Special Olympics Regional Equestrian Event.
After a seven-year gap in competing, Nayeem’s Mum Nahid said that it was incredibly inspiring to see Nayeem return to competition with such determination and passion.
Competing in Group A, Nayeem performed brilliantly – winning a Bronze medal in Dressage and a Silver medal in Trail Ride.
Nahid, said:
“We are so proud of Nayeem’s dedication, resilience, and his love for horses”
Nayeem is member of the Special Olympic North West Group. The Autism Initiatives team in Southport went with him fortnightly to practice his riding at Wirral Riding Centre.
Nayeem also loves to share his love for riding with others by volunteering weekly at Becconsall Equestrian Centre near Preston.
Nayeem will also taking part in the upcoming 2026 National Summer Games in early August.
At this event, athletes compete across disciplines including dressage, equitation, and working trails. Nayeem will take part in Equestrian under the special Olympic North West Group and Boccia (pronounced Bot-cha) with Southport and Formby Special Olympic Group.
Boccia is a Paralympic sport where athletes throw, kick or use a ramp to propel a ball onto the court with the aim of getting closest to a ‘jack’ ball. It is played indoors on a court similar in size to a badminton court.
When asked how he is feeling ahead of the National Summer Games, Nahid shared that Nayeem is feeling confident and regularly practices outside in garden.
Registered Service Manager Elizabeth Mercer said:
“Well done to Nayeem. We are all so proud of him. His hard work has paid off and delighted that he has achieved silver and bronze medals. It is inspiring to see him pursuing his passion, and we wish him all the best of luck for the upcoming event in August.”
