Haven School celebrates SEND Inclusion Award
The Haven, in Mold North Wales, has been successfully recommended to receive the SEND Inclusion Award for a period of three years. This external recognition reflects the strong, inclusive and highly personalised provision that they offer for learners.
During a detailed and thorough evaluation process, a wide range of evidence was reviewed, including school development plans, policies, assessment and tracking systems, Individual Development Plans (IDPs), learner voice work, staff training records, and communication with families. The assessor commented very positively on the clear overview this provided of the work of The Haven and the consistency of practice across the school.
The verification has highlighted the school’s strong inclusive ethos, high aspirations for learners and clear focus on preparing young people for meaningful adult lives. The small, specialist setting was recognised as a key strength, allowing staff to know learners exceptionally well, build trusting relationships and respond quickly and effectively to individual needs. The quality of autism specific practice, personalised support and learner centred approach was evident throughout.
The Report Highlighted many strengths including:
The impact of this work is clear. Learners were described as “feeling safe, valued and included within a nurturing environment. They are increasingly confident, engaged in learning, and developing independence and life skills.” Parents’ feedback was highlighted as extremely positive, with high levels of satisfaction and trust in the school’s support and communication.
Acting Headteacher David Liddle said: “I am incredibly proud of this outcome and of our staff team, whose dedication, care and expertise were clearly recognised through the verification. I would also like to thank our parents and carers, for their trust, partnership and ongoing support, which plays a vital role in the success of our school.
Together, we remain committed to ensuring that The Haven continues to provide a safe, supportive and aspirational environment where every learner can grow to their full potential.”
